Process

Here is how the 'get out of debt' process works:

  1. First you call our toll-free help line (1-888-591-9443) to book a free consultation session OR complete our on-line application.

  2. You will be asked to prepare for this telephone or face-to-face meeting by having all your documents ready - credit card, bank and loan statements, payday loans, student loans, government debt, pay stubs, etc, and making a detailed list of all your monthly income and expenses.

  3. During the consultation one of counsellors will review your financial situation and work with you to determine how much you can actually afford to pay your creditors each month to get out of debt.  Your counsellor will also look for areas where some creative techniques can be used to resolve other debt-related problems.  We will help you to create a monthly cash flow plan (some people call this a "budget") that will make it possible to pay off your debts without making you live in poverty.  The budget - not the creditors' demands -  will determine how fast you will be able to get out of debt.  Depending on your circumstances, this may take from two to five years. In addition, our clients usually save thousands of dollars in reduced interest charges.

  4. Once we have established your budget, including your debt-elimination payments, we will ask you to enter into an agreement under which you will be committed to make one payment each month into a trust account from which AAA Credit Counsellors & Debt Consultants, a licensed "debt-pooler" will distribute your money, less a small administration fee, to your creditors every month until your debts have been eliminated.

  5. Upon receipt of your first full payment we will begin negotiations with the creditors, which may take from several hours to a few weeks, depending on the time it takes the creditors to respond to our offers.  We will ask them to reduce your interest rates to zero percent - we don't always get them to cooperate that well, but they are usually willing to make generous concessions.  It is important that this first payment is received as soon as possible, so that the creditors don't have time to pile on additional late fees and interest charges before we have an opportunity to get them to agree to our terms.

  6. Once the creditors have received our proposals, they usually stop calling you. Some of them may be a little stubborn and take a little longer to remove you from the call lists, but they WILL stop calling, and you will be able to answer your phone without looking at the call display!

  7. You will receive regular statements from us, and some of your creditors may continue to send you monthly statements, which you may use to confirm that the payments you are making are actually reducing your debt!

  8. We will be available at any time to answer questions you may have, provide 'no-charge' advice on any of your financial concerns, help with continued budget management, and so on.

  9. When your debts have been paid off, we will provide you with a diploma (after all you will have learned a lot about managing money in this process) and a letter of reference which you may present to any prospective lender if you ever have to borrow again.

  10. With the lessons you will have learned, and the habits that will have become natural for you, you should be able to continue your new-found spending and saving routines to begin to accumulate wealth - we will be happy to work with you to make sure you understand the new possibilities that will now be open to you.
